Quality Standards 3.2 Student Support and development

Quality Standards 3.2 Student Support and development

Quality Standards 3.2                   Student Support and development

Quality Standards Type                Process

Description

In the first year of studies, a mechanism is required to develop basic knowledge or prepare students so that they will be ready to cheerfully learn at the higher education level with a low dropout rate. While they study, various activities to develop students’ knowledge and abilities should be provided – both in- and outside-of classes – along with activities to promote good citizenship and a sense of public awareness. A system to care for and provide academic advising (Bachelor, Master and Doctoral) should be established, along with a system to prevent and manage student risks, so that they will be able to successfully complete their studies within the timeframes specified in the curriculum. This includes supporting the dissemination of students’ academic work, providing learning opportunities to promote development of student potential, and supplying 21st century learning skills that meet international standards.

          Curriculum management performance that showed the quality of student will be based on ;

All students enrolled in the program meet with their respective advisers as needed. Aside from the adviser, the students also meet with the Dean of Education for further academic or personal advice.

Some of the issues  of the current MEd LMS students  which were adressed by the faculty and made the students happy and motivated them to continue with their studies despite this Pandemic were:

  1. Difficulty of commuting from their home to school- This was remedied by providing overnight stay in the college dormitories with minimal fee.

Development of Students Potentials  to meet the International Standards

The Master of Education in Learning Management Science curriculum with the  highly qualified lecturers acting as guide and facilitators had well planned activities  to be able to deliver the learning standards and  meet the learning outcomes of the different disciplines. Well planned syllabus that contains, the course description. objectives,   The professors provided learning opportunities to promote and develop further the potentials of the students, as well as supplying the 21st century learning skills that meet the international standards

These were some of the learning activities that challenged the thinking skills of the students to be learner person, co creator, and active citizens.

  1. Mini-lectures and debates  – The progressive perspective of a classroom had been in practice in the few subjects  that had been held last academic year 2020. Students were given  topics to research on and deliver oral presentations.  At the end of oral  presentations,   intellectual arguments  happen.  With this activities, the students be held responsible to use their 21st century skills in knowing how to search for the appropriate and correct  information,  deciding where to get the information, and the proper use of technology to draw, organize, and prsent the information.
  2. Techno savvy- The Pandemic had forced every educator and learner of the world to use technology. The MedLMS students were not exempted from these. Online classes were held, students have to learn how to use the google classroom and its features in order for them to attend classes, do, and submit requirements. They have to create their own website in wix.com for them to  upload their weblogs. Moreover, they have to learn how to use other Learning Management Systems, like the moodle, kahoot, zoom,socrates.com, etc. to be able to join other school activities.
  3.  Professional Learning Community (PLC) projects through weblogs The PLC is a new initiative of the Thai government  to bring culture to the classroom.Abiding and reinforcing this idea of the government, the MedLMS students also took part in their own capacity to help promote this project which promises a paradigm shift in the country’s educational reform. A paradigm shift that focuses from teachers to learners. The students in my   subject 132 201-Professional Developmentof Teachers Toward a Learning Society made their own PLC’s that were used by thier own schools and other educators via their weblogs in wix.com.
  4. Virtual webinar on Thesis Writing-The MedLMS students anticipating that they will be required to write high quality research papers joined this seminar which was held online. This was the first virtual seminar of the  the post graduate of the faculty of Education
  5. 1st Graduate schoolVirtual Expo and Webinar on ” Digital Technology for Education and mini-conference”- This webinar enriched the students on Artificial Intelligence and its role in the educational system. Moreover, the students were given the chance to learn from the different output of the other students in the post graduate courses in Education.
  6.  Action research . The  students in 142 101 Philosophy and Theory of Education made an action research on the Educational Philosophical Principles in Teaching Preferred by Graduate Diploma Students at St Theresa International College. This activity trains students to integrate research in their basic courses which will be of help to them as they write their thesis  and as they write articles for publications in the future.

Assessment Process

All these activities were planned before they were implemented. The PDCA cycle in short was followed to ensure the quality and effectiveness of project management. First, the activities were planned with the respective committee which is composed of the lecturers, and the students. Series of meetings are then conducted to ensure that all aspects of the project is well planned and prepared. Then, the project is carried out and implemented. Thereafter, the project organizers conduct evaluation using the SAO evaluation form, Analysis of the the responses is made and is submitted to the SAO Office or the program committee. Suggestions for improvement were noted and integrated into the activity the following year. The result of the evalauation is as follows:

Improvement /Development

It was noted that the activities given to the studnts were really challenging for them but they learned teachnological skills and life long skills as they were bombarded with many academic requirements.  The lecturers involved suggest that the other lecturers who will be teaching them perhaps continue to adhere with the pragmatist philosophy of John Dewey, where the students are given activities where they are involved and do the first hand analysis and solution to their problems. Let them create  and inovate activities/ projects  that are apt to the present situation and be useful in their jobs and to the bigger community.

Results

Students had given a high satisfaction rating to the different activities conducted for the academic year. Students were able to present and showcase their academic work/output. High achievement among graduate students was evident.
