Description
A basic factor in the successful operation of a program of studies is the qualifications of students who are admitted into the program. Each curriculum has a philosophical concept in designing, and it is essential that student qualifications be set forth that are consistent with the nature of the curriculum. Student selection criteria must be transparent, clear, and in harmony with student qualifications specified in the curriculum. Tools, data, or methods are used to select students who are intellectually, physically, and emotionally ready and determined to learn, and who have adequate time to successfully complete the program of studies within the timeframe specified in the curriculum.

Assessment criteria
Assessment to determine the quality level consider the overall picture of the operations in 2 areas; student admissions and readiness preparation before study commences which will increase their readiness for studying in curriculum. Assessment level is a score between 0-5 as follows

System and Mechanism
3.1 System mechanism of Student admissions and readiness preparation before study commence
- The curriculum or program determines the student admission plan according to the TQF. 2.
- The curriculum or program determines the qualifications of students and notifies the faculty / college.
- The curriculum or program specifies the criteria used for student selection which consists of academic criteria, English language requirements (if any) and other areas and notifies the faculty / college
- The curriculum or program in cooperations with the faculty and the college proceed the announcement of student applications.
- The curriculum or program examines students’ qualifications.
- The curriculum or program selects students.
- The curriculum or program announces selected students.
- The curriculum or program evaluates student admissions procedures and analyze the problems and set up improvements to ensure the number of students in accordance with the TQF 2.
- Students report and register to be college student.

Process: The program of Bachelor of Education in Mathematics has an in-place system of requiring applicants to have a GPA of at least 2.5 on
a scale of 4.0 from their high schools. The list of all applicants will be reviewed by admission office as indicated in the System and Mechanism (see 3.1.1.1) and interview form (see 3.1.1.2. They have to pass the interview test before being accepted in the program as reflected in the flowchart (see 3.1.1.3).
With the desire to increase the enrolment, the Programme Committee from the Faculty of Education composed of the three Department Heads/OICs from the English, Science and Math Departments met and discussed the plans for each of the departments for the admission of students to the program. This is to increase the number of students to be accepted in the program. The committee suggested the inclusion of Lecturer, students, and alumni in the recruitment process. The plan was transmitted to the marketing Department last academic year thru a letter from the three Department Heads/OIC’s (see 3.1.1.4).
Assessment: The BEd-Math committee found out that the recruitment department have exerted their best efforts to recruit more students, the actions made are more than enough as the Department have accepted 8 new enrollees compared to only 1 enrolee in the previous academic year. The committee agreed that although the actions taken resulted to a great increase in the enrolment amidst the CORONA Virus Pandemic, the recruitment department should continue to exert their 100% effort to recruit more in the next academic year.
Result: From the number of enrollees last academic year as basis, it can be concluded that the concerted effort of the department and the recruitment department was very effective. there is an increased of 600% in the department’s new students for academic year 2022-2023.
Suggestion: It is our suggestion that Lecturers and the recruitment department should continue to work together and strengthen their collaborative works to sustain the great percentage margin of increase for the new academic year.
3.1.2 Readiness Preparation before Study Commences
Process: The program sets a preparatory system and process for the first year students by offering 10 weeks Intensive English Programme (IEP). As an improvement of this process, a proposal for a Summer Math class was made to prepare the the students for the main course (see 3.1.2.1). Towards the end of the summer, students are to be assessed to check whether they are ready or not for the main course, otherwise, even if they are enrolled in the main course they are still to undergo extra classes.
As students in an International College, the students are expected to develop their English skills through the Intensive English Summer Classes and adjust themselves to study English language. The IEP mainly focuses on the four (4) skills : Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. Students spend 8 hours a day for studying English. All activities will help improve/enhance the English competency of the incoming freshmen students of St Theresa International College (see 3.1.2.2).
The new students will attend 2 freshman orientations;
the orientation before Intensive English and the orientation
before the academic year start in June.
Assessment: The Math students were observed to be happy and ready for the opening of classes for term 1 as they really enjoyed during the Summer Festival. The feeling of being away is not evident; and also the activity made our students feel that they are welcome to the college and that they feel that they are in a place that they can call their home away from home.
Result: It was observed that the students are happy and are ready for the term 1 classes.
Suggestions: The academic team of the college should find ways to implement more plans and activities that will encourage the students to be more positive in facing a new chapter of their lives in a new environment. Moreover, activities that are flexible in terms of time and venues should be designed to meet the new normal situation.
