The values consisting of “Learning, Community, Integrity, Responsibility, and Excellence are conveyed and instilled in faculty members, employees, and students” through faculty members’ and students’ orientations. In committing strategic plan, the Dean participates in the preparation of the strategic plan by acting as the chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee taking the 5-year strategic plan and the operation results of the annual strategic plan from last year into consideration. To put the plan into action, the Faculty started by analyzing the strategic factors using SWOT analysis. Based on the results of the SWOT analysis, the Strategic Planning Committee writes out the annual strategic plan containing various projects and activities (see Figure 1) to promote the vision and values, to fulfill the five core missions (Education Management, Research, Academic Service, Administration, and Preservation of Arts and Culture).

2. Vision and values (Promoting Legal and ethical behavior).  How do the dean’s actions demonstrate their commitment to legal and ethical behavior?

Since the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is an affiliated unit of St Theresa International College which is under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education Science Research and Innovation, it has to comply with all rules and regulations including the University Act which is the main law governing the College and various regulations issued by the National University Council. Within the College, announcements, and regulations are also issued by College and faculties. Following all laws, rules, and regulations, the Dean of the Faculty oversees the Faculty’s operations to make them comply with regulations and announcements covering teaching and learning management, research, academic services, and administration through various committees such as administrative oversight through the Faculty Committee and research through the Faculty Research Committee. In order to ensure thorough supervision, the Dean has assigned the Deputy Dean and the two program heads to oversee relevant operations relating to each program. In addition, the Dean requires that the support staff must strictly follow the operation manual that complies with the rules and regulations of the college. As for the promotion of ethics, which is defined as a part of the Faculty’s values, the Dean has laid out guidelines for instilling it through personnel development activities and setting it up as values through both programs.
Regarding morality, the Dean emphasizes working on the basis of transparency by strictly following the principles of good governance. By the end of the academic year, the Dean asks faculty members to evaluate the Dean’s performance.

INTEGRITY supports the work we do by emphasizing honesty, ethical behavior, and trustworthiness. By taking RESPONSIBILITY for our work and our actions, we help our students, colleagues, and College achieve EXCELLENCE.

3. Communication. How does the dean communicate with and engage the entire workforce, key partners, students, and other key customers?

The Dean communicates with faculty members through various channels such as faculty meetings. The meetings are of two kinds: semester meetings and monthly meetings. The former is arranged twice per semester to clarify work plans and missions at the beginning of the semester and to summarize the faculty performance at the end of the semester. The monthly meeting is aimed at the Dean to follow up on the project/activities, to inform urgent tasks, or to jointly solve problems that arise. The Dean provides opportunities for faculty members, staff, and students to meet personally or communicate instantly via email when they need help or advice. In the case of students, the dean and program heads meet with students on various occasions. At the beginning of the semester, the Faculty holds an orientation for the new students where the students are informed of all details about the program they are about to study. Each student will receive a ‘Students’ Handbook’ containing necessary details, rules, and regulations that will help them to successfully study until graduating. For current students, the Faculty has assigned advisors to help and guide them in all academic and personal issues. Besides, these students are encouraged to participate in some projects such as ‘Academic Service’, ‘Ethics and Moral Development’, ‘Green University: Electricity Conservation’, and ‘Strong and Sustainable Community’. Participating in these projects, the students learn and help to fulfill the Faculty’s mission which is to strengthen the relationship with and support the surrounding communities, while at the same time, they develop themselves with a sense of public mind. For those students who want to file complaints, they can do so by submitting their complaint to their advisor who will pass the complaint to the faculty committee who will solve the complaint.
To publicize the Faculty to institutions outside, the Faculty provides the faculty information for the roadshow activities done by the College’s public relations with schools in different regions.
With public and private organizations where the students do internship or work, the Faculty interviews and ask them to evaluate our students’ qualities aligning with those set by the Ministry of Higher Education.
To build relationships and acknowledgment with staff, the Dean encourages faculty members to continue their studies at the doctoral level and to produce academic and research work for academic titles by setting the timeline for each faculty member in a 5-year strategic plan. for faculty members whose research papers have been published, or whose work has been patented, the Faculty and College have awarded and honored them with certificates.
All annual performances are collected and evaluated by the faculty committee for improvement in the following year.

4. The faculty mission and organizational performance (Creating an Environment for Success). How does the create an environment for success now and in the future?

To lead the Faculty to sustainable success (from the present to the future), the Faculty creates a supportive environment for faculty members and staff, and for students.
For Faculty members, the Dean has created a supportive academic environment to encourage lecturers to promote themselves to a higher level than the one they are possessing by setting up the 5-year strategic plan. As a part of the plan, there is a timeline where each lecturer has decided to continue their study for a doctoral degree, to produce academic, research work, or to apply for an academic title in the year determined by themselves. In case some of the lecturers haven’t had enough research knowledge, the Dean helps them by pairing them with senior lecturers with research experiences and having them meet with the Director of the Department of Research and Innovation for research advice. For other development relating to teaching techniques, exam paper writing, etc., the Dean encourages them to participate in internal and external seminars or training for at least 15 hours a year.
Regarding the Faculty’s annual projects, the Dean has all lecturers share responsibility in all projects aiming at them to help the Faculty to achieve all projects’ objectives. Sharing responsibility has developed their recognition of the importance of the Faculty’s yearly achievement which will lead to sustainable success.
For support staff, the Faculty encourages them to join both internal and external training (mostly online) to improve their technical skills to support the faculty operation.
As for the students, they are invited to participate in some projects for their own benefit and the Faculty’s benefit. For example, they participated in “Academic Service” for a community close to the College, or “Green University: Electricity Conservation”. By doing this, the students developed academic and soft skills and helped the Faculty to build a relationship with the community.
The Faculty has created a culture of trust among faculty members and students in that Students are allowed to ask for any help from lecturers and staff. Toward the end of each semester, the Faculty ask students to evaluate the lecturers’ performance and the Faculty’s performance. The lecturers are asked to evaluate the Dean’s performance. The results of the evaluation are used for the improvement of the Faculty in all dimensions.

5. The faculty mission and organizational performance (Creating a Focus on Action). How does the dean create a focus on action that will achieve the faculty’s mission?

The Dean and faculty committee determine a yearly strategic plan and assign both BE and CA program heads to put the plan into action projects each of which is executed following the objective(s) and KPI(s). The Dean and two program heads analyze each faculty member’s capability that matches the projects in order for them to be the key person to be responsible for the projects. At the beginning of the academic year, the Dean calls for a faculty meeting to inform all faculty members about the Faculty’s overall mission and also the projects each of them is responsible for. To assure the projects’ achievements, the Dean follows up on the execution of all projects and requires the persons in charge of the projects to report the results when the projects are done. Every quarter, the Dean summarizes the projects and the results to the Director of the Department of Research and Innovation.
With this rigorous practice plan, the Faculty successfully improve its performance to achieve the objectives in accordance with the Faculty’s strategic plan and vision.
