PART – 1: INTRODUCTION

1.1.  Name of the Institution :  St. Theresa International College [ STIC ]

        Location                          :  Ongkarak (Klong 14), Nakhon Nayok, Thailand – 26120.

1.2.  General Introduction and Executive Summary

In St.Theresa International College [STIC], Education Quality Assurance has been recognised as the key development of the institute. To strengthen the activities of the Quality assurance Division [QAD], the institute authority promulgated a decision to set up a committee and established the Center for Educational Testing and Quality Assessment [CETQA] since almost the beginning of the institute and then onwards the Quality Management Office [QMO] is active and the Quality Assurance [QA] has become a formal and permanent activity in STIC.

In order to enhance the quality of the Bachelor of Education Mathematics [BEDM] offered by the Faculty of Education [FE] of STIC, the programme was selected for QA as per AUN-QA, version 4.0 standards.

The Self – Assessment Report [SAR] which provides detailed but brief quality information of the Bachelor of Education Mathematics [BEDM] programme, is prepared by the faculties of EDM along with the support of QMO.The Self – Assessment Process and SAR preparing process are implemented following the PDCA cycle as described below:

The SAR abounds with four major parts, closely following the eight criteria defined in the manual Guide of AUN – QA

1.3. Introduction to The Organisation

1.3.1. Brief History : St. Theresa International College, formerly known as St Theresa Inti College, is established as an institution of higher education. Established in 2538 by a joint venture between St. Theresa International School of Business Administration. Thailand and Inti College The founding name was St. Theresa Inti College and was announced in the Government Gazette on 10 May 2544.

In 2546, it was accredited as an educational institution that uses English as the medium of instruction for all courses from the Ministry of Universities.

In the academic year 2552, the name was changed to “St Theresa International College”. The college has collaborations to produce graduates with overseas institutions such as the University of East London, the United Kingdom, the Wairiki Institute of Technology in New Zealand, and the University of Patten, USA.

In the academic year 2554, the college received the third round of external quality assessment from the external auditors from the Office of Education Standards and Quality Assessment (Public Organization) at the institutional and faculty levels. In the academic year 2555, the Faculty of Humanities was renamed to the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

In the academic year 2556, the college started with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in a total of 4 faculties: Faculty of Business Administration, Faculty of Nursing, Faculty of Public Health and Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, with both Thai and foreign students.

In the academic year 2557, the college separated the education-related programs from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences to become the Faculty of Education. Faculty of Nursing Faculty of Public Health Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and Faculty of Education

In the academic year 2558, the college offered 3 more programs: Bachelor of Communication Program, Bachelor of Education Program in Mathematics and Certificate Program in Teacher Profession. In the academic year 2559, the college opened 2 more programs, namely the Bachelor of Science Program in Aviation and the Bachelor of Education Program in General Science.

In the academic year 2560, the college offered two additional programs, namely the Bachelor of Accounting Program in Accounting and the Master of Education Program in Science Education. On January 2, 2561, the Office of the Higher Education Commission granted accreditation at the curriculum and institutional levels, and in the academic year 12, the college closed one master’s degree program, the Master of Education Program in Science Education.

In the academic year 2563, the college has developed the Bachelor of Business Administration Program in Business Administration into 2 programs, namely the Bachelor of Business Administration Program in Business Administration and the Bachelor of Business Administration Program in Aviation Business.

In the academic year 2564, the college passed the assessment of the quality of education from the Office of Education Standards and Quality Assessment (OSEC). The assessment results were based on 28 standards, 4 indicators were not accepted (because doctoral studies have not been carried out). Permission to certify doctoral degree status and one new program is launched, namely the Doctor of Education Program in Educational Administration (New Course 1). As a result, in the 2565 academic year, there were 5 programs, including 2564 undergraduate programs and 19 graduate programs from 13 schools: Business Administration, Humanities and Social Sciences, Education, Nursing, and Public Health.

The college has a prolonged objective and committment to continually develop the quality of its degree programmes through international collaborations while producing appropriate graduates for multinational professions.

The essential feature of programmes of STIC is that students will be elligible to transfer and study at any of our partnered universities where they could be required to complete their final year and could receive a respective Bachelor degree from their chosen university. STIC is, furthermore, one of the few international institutes in Thailand where the medium of teaching instruction in all the faculty programmes is English. This is a great advantage of our students to qualify for career oppurtunities abroad. The Bachelor of Education programme of STIC produces undergraduates to meet the higher demand of English speaking teachers with specialization in Mathematics and Science. In the dynamic era of globalization, the college is committed to promoting internationalization, while preserving national pride and cultural participation among students, regardless of race, religion and nationality. The multi – cultural community of students and faculties create a real, true and complete international environment and atmosphere that truely escalate the students’ back bone to the international standard for their future studies and STIC programmes are accredited by the Commission of Higher Education of The Ministry of Education,Thailand in accordance with the standards defined by the ASEAN Economic Community Education Framework.

College Council : In accordance with Thailand Act of Legislation (2007), The College Council and its members have the following authorities and responsibilities : 

  – Policy Management – The Council is responsible for the establishment of rules, regulations and policies for harmonious operation and control of the College. This would include the allocation of budget and investment of funds.

   –  Academics – The Council is responsible for –

 (1) Approval of curriculum modifications,

 (2) Establishment of joint ventures or academic partnerships with national and international institutions.

   – Quality of Education – The College Council is responsible for the development and support of all College efforts in addressing academic QA requirements. This includes the improvement of programmes, Development of skills for academic and non-academic staff, management of research projects, awarding of scholarships and promotion of academic services to national or international communities.

Established in 2556 (2013) under the recommendation and supervision of the Teacher Council of Thailand, the FE was founded with the goal of offering opportunities to the students in professional development that emphasizes on advanced teaching practices, improving learning experiences and progressive research efforts. Our small student-to-faculty enunciates that everybody would have unpreceedented opportunity for one-to-one collaboration with our excellent faculties.all of whom are dedicated to everybody’s successes.

FE offers a Bachelor and Master programmes in Education, both of which would prepare students for a range of education settings and specializations.

The Bachelor of Education programmes provide new faculties with essential academic knowledge skills deemed appropriate to address the ever – changing teaching teaching and learning environment.FE offers three majors in Bachelor programme – Mathematics, Science and English.  

The Master of Education programme exposes students to the Art of Educational Administration where they will be able to cope up with any kinds of modernized educational institutes. Upon completion of the programme, students will be able to contribute to the evolution of education.

Approved and accredited by Thailand Ministry of Education, STIC is proud to be the only institute to offer International Graduate Diploma Programme in Teaching Profession.This programme exposes students in many aspects of Thailand Educational System. Successful completion of the programme makes students to become an accredited school teacher which is fully licensed to teach in the Kingdom of Thailand. 1.11. Department of Bachelor of Education Mathematics :  

1.11.1 Brief Introduction to the Bachelor of Education Mathematics Programme :

Integration of the ASEAN community has influenced the gradual increased importance of English usages in education and teaching profession.Further, need for English speaking Mathematics teachers are increasingly important in almost all schools, colleges and universities. STIC is proud to be the first private university – level institute that offers the International Programme in Bachelor of Education in Mathematics. For this the bachelor of Education Mathematics programme at STIC would be the best choice for a teacher with expertise in Mathematics and advanced teaching methodology in English language. 

Bachelor of Education Mathematics started admission from the year 2014 (2057) and still continues and produces successfully graduates in Education Mathematics to support the realm of English speaking Mathematics teachers to develop the society to the extent of International standards.

The Bachelor of Education Mathematics Programme (International Programme) is a 4 Year regular programme designed to produce professional teachers that are highly proficient in English along with advanced knowledge in Mathematics.The programme will train students to have professional integrity, together with life – long learning habits. It will prepare students to cope with the rapidly changing world and also to acquire leadership roles in building up educational models especially for Thailand and the ASEAN community. The programme focuses on building up skills and expertise, honing one to be a well – rounded teacher of Mathematics.Our international faculties provide high quality innovative knowledge, information technology expertise and modern up-to-date educational materials for effective teaching and classroom management together with a variety of activities to achieve maximum efficiency in teaching profession.

During the fourth year of the programme, all students are required to take a full year long internship as student-teachers in actual schools.While being closely monitored and supervised by both STIC teachers and supervisors of the school throughout the internship, students are directly involved in real teaching, preparing lessons and relevant materials related to teaching and organizing activities for their school pupils as well as evaluating and improving students’ performances. Abreast with professional teachers, the internship helps students to enhance their teaching spirit and gain first-hand work experience. 

1.11.2. Extra – Curricular Activities

 Students of the BEDM programme perform numerous extra-curricular activities all the year round, all of which are aimed at helping them advance academically, socially, nationally and internationally. Activities include :

    – Community service that involves teaching of mathematics at local schools in Nakhon Nayok;

    – Preservation of Thai traditions, arts and culture during national festivals ( viz. Songkran) strengthening the English speaking skills through involvement in STIC Radio Channel;

    – Water festival, Loi Krathong festival, Christmas’ day. Father’s day, Mother’s day and Wai Khru Teacher’s day;

    – Complete in academic contests at national and international levels;

    – Visit national and  international schools to learn and experience real – world classroom activities.

BEDM programme comprises of five well qualified faculties including national and international satisfying all necessary eligibility criteria prescribed  by the Commission of Higher Education of The Ministry of Education, Thailand. They are sufficiently competent to educate Thai students in English Language as per the vision and mission of the department and competently able to educate students in mathematical knowledge and in teaching profession with the extent of technology usages.
